Class Details

Seeing/drawing is about life in its fullness, about learning to see again and thereby be totally alive and fully aware.
-
Frederick Franck, Twentieth Century artist and author

Artist, author, and creativity coach Cynthia Morris was always attracted to meditation but was uncomfortable with traditional approaches. “I can’t sit still!”, she explains. In 1996 she discovered Zen Seeing, Zen Drawing: Meditation in Action by Frederick Franck, fell in love with his method, and has been practicing it ever since. Cynthia developed this class to share Franck’s method with others. The class combines two disciplines – drawing and meditation – to slow people down and help them become more mindful. She says it’s amazing how a conscious focus on drawing everyday objects quiets the mind.

Experience these calming effects firsthand in this online, two session class. The tools are simple: a pen or pencil, some paper, and less time than you might think. The class sessions are scheduled a week apart. The first one consists of instruction and some simple drawing exercises. After the first session, Cynthia sends out a daily drawing prompt. At the end of the week, she leads a group discussion on what worked and what was challenging. This final day is also to celebrate your accomplishment – a week of daily drawing!

Experience the transformative power of doing simple drawings on a daily basis. The value is huge: a state of heightened awareness in which you tune into yourself but also see more of what’s around you. A previous student said, “It changed how I frame the world.”

This online class will be recorded and made available to class participants for 14 days after the class.
